Ma. Lourdes “Nenang” Gaston Dalupan taught English at her alma mater, St. Theresa’s College, then at the Manila Archdiocesan Seminary of San Carlos, and later at the Ateneo de Manila University. She has published several short stories and collaborated on the textbook, Basic English for College, winner of the Gintong Aklat (Golden Book) Award. Born in Victorias, Negros Occidental, and schooled early on at Assumption Iloilo, her love for her family and home province shine through this selection of writings. Her poems and stories reflect a yearning for the “hacienda of her childhood,” and recount tales of love, loss, and longing. Her essays celebrate the Gastons’ rich history and legacy, while her memoirs recount an idyllic childhood interrupted by a war that only strengthened her family and fueled her literary passion. This book is a veritable trove of memories and tributes, a journey that celebrates a unique family and a time when “every common sight did seem appareled in celestial light.”
